The 2023-2034 season has begun for Gloucestershire. We travelled the short distance to Shropshire.
This was a fantastic weekend of darts from both teams. The result unfortunately went 19-17 in Shropshires favour. Very unlucky result.
It was a great atmosphere the best it has been for a long time and it has sent the standard for this season. We started off the weekend with the Women B which we won 4-2 after going 2-0 down. Great results and lady of the match went to Jane Price with a 19.27.
It then went to the men. This was a well fought game finishing 7-5 to Shropshire. Everyone really put everything on that stage and every game had the chance to go either way. The mens captain Mark Wellington took the match award with a 24.72 average. This ended the day 9-9 with it all to play for.
Onto the Sunday our ladies A struggled to really find it. A couple of games went the distance which we could of had. It ended up being a 5-1 loss with Carol Smith taking the match honours with a 13.82.
The men fought back and they fought hard multiple 25+ averages seen the men get the win 7-5 again with a few games that could of gone in our favour. This was a brilliant battle between two strong teams. It was a pleasure to watch. Veteran player Shaun Hughes went on last and took the man of the match award with a 26.69 average.
Overall this was a fantastic weekend of darts it was unfortunate that Gloucestershire did not get the win but we keep our heads up for the next game. Home against Breconshire on the 7th-8th October.
